THE MOOD

Butterfly Mood Board - Tastemaker Status

BUTTERFLIES

These amazing insects have always fascinated the public with their wide array of colors, patterns, and shapes, and fashion designers are no exception. As a matter of fact, butterflies have been gracing the runway periodically for years now, from Elsa Schiaparelli’s butterfly adorned blazer and hat in 1947, to Thierry Mugler’s butterfly-winged gown in 1997, to Alexander McQueen’s butterfly infested headgear in 2008. Thanks to the coming of fashion-consumer age of millennials, who grew up with Lisa Frank’s rainbow-colored world, we are seeing a resurgence of 90’s fads which includes the butterfly and all its glory.

Runway - Butterfly Fashion

Butterfly Palette

The butterfly trend gets a update with bold shades of black and a new sophisticated-take on rainbow brights. Pale shades of pink, purple, and green can stand out on their own or tone-down with deep, grounding shades of blue and black.

Butterfly Colors

Butterfly Texture

Between beautiful colors, luminescent textures, and loose, vivid patterns, there is plenty of inspiration to be drawn from butterflies for fabrication. Try metallic brocades, watercolor-patterned chiffons, and vibrant-hued silks to get that butterfly look.

ContourDrawing - Tastemaker Status

This drawing technique makes for quirky graphics & eye-catching patterns.

Contour drawing is an art technique where artists are challenged to create without lifting their pencil. This creates one continuous line (another name for technique), hence the distinct geometric, but fluid, style. Though this technique has been around for a while, its been recently embraced by fashion as a cool decorative motif. Get the look below:
